Nuna Contracting gets new Collective Agreement with PSAC

The Public Service Alliance of Canada and the Union of Northern Workers reached a tentative first Agreement with Nuna Contracting Ltd earlier this week, which was subsequently ratified on June 26th, 2008. Nuna Contracting employees at Giant Mine were previously represented by the Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC), whose contract expired on June 30, 2007.

Some of the highlights from Nuna Contracting's first agreement with PSAC/UNW includes:

  • A total of 11.79% wage increases over 21 months, including vacation travel assistance, RRSP, and retroactive pay adjustments to the expiry of the last collective agreement with CLAC;
  • Excellent provisions for job protection, human rights, and hours of work;
  • Outstanding language for occupational health and safety measures, Union representation and Union rights.

"We are proud of this new collective agreement with the employees of Nuna Contracting, which includes increased benefits and outstanding language that protects worker's jobs and Union rights", says Jean-Francois Des Lauriers, PSAC Regional Executive Vice President. "I extend my congratulations to our new members and our bargaining team for their hard work in creating an agreement that provides these employees with more stability, protection, and empowerment in their workplace, with representation they can count on".
