Feb 18, 2008

Vic Toews, President of Treasury Board, was greeted by a group of 15 activists in Whitehorse on February 18, 2008 outside the Westmark Hotel at 6:30 p.m. Activists and supporters donned placards and covered both entrances of the hotel handing out flyers (click here to read) identifying cutbacks by the Tories.

So Cool They're Hot!

On Canada Day, members from various local and committees passed out "Public Services Are Cool" popsicles and fans to people enjoying the parade and the festivities in Rotary Park.

The petition to raise the Northern Residents Tax Deduction was also taken to the park, with many signatures being collected.

There was a BBQ in the parking lot of Yukon Employees Union on July 18th, about 60 people attended.  The winners of the Alpine Bakery gift certificates were Ryan Hodgins, Russ Carpenter and Nathan Doering.

As part of a northern tour, booths were set up in Dawson City July 20-22, response to both the petition and the popsicles was very positive.

There was a BBQ and booth at the community Centre in Haines Junction on July 31.

We set up an information booth in Watson Lake on the Discovery Day weekend.  There were t-shirts given away and temporary tattoos and popsicles for the kids(and kids at heart).  And of course the Northern Residents Tax Deduction petition was there for signing.

We will also had a booth at the Laour Day BBQ in Rotary Park on Aug 3rd.  The weather was great and park was full.  Y010 gave out almost 2000 hot dogs and hamburgers.
